Project Overview
This page will cover the purpose of this project, who is responsible for delivering it, the CLFN lands it will be constructed, timelines and who is paying for the project.

What is the purpose of this water distribution project?
-
The purpose of the water distribution project is to construct a communal watermain throughout the approved areas of the First Nation. The water distribution provides the ability for a home or business to connect to the main using a smaller diameter service connection. This connection can be made to the homes plumbing system with some modifications. The water distribution system has been designed to draw raw water from Buckhorn Lake, which is then treated though several treatment stages and is pumped to the new elevated storage reservoir. This reservoir holds the treated water at an elevation that provides pressure throughout the entire water distribution system.

Who is responsible for building the different aspects of the project?
-
There are 3 contracts related to the water supply system currently under construction.
-
Contract 1 is for the elevated storage reservoir and is between the Curve Lake First Nation and the general contractor who was awarded the project. In this case, the general contractor is Landmark Structures.
-
Contract 2 is for the water treatment plant and is between the Curve Lake First Nation and the general contractor who was awarded the project. In this case, the general contractor is Peak Construction Group Limited.
-
Contract 3 is for the watermain and is between the Curve Lake First Nation and the general contractor who was awarded the project. In this case, the general contractor is Nick Carchidi Excavating Limited.
Where will the project take place?
-
Contract 1 – the elevated storage reservoir (water tower) is currently under construction on Weequod Street South.
-
Contract 2 – the water treatment plant is currently under construction on the lands previously referred to as the “Dashwood” property. The land is now under the jurisdiction and authority of the Curve Lake First Nation. The physical address is 1640 County Rd 22, Curve Lake, Ontario K0L1R0.
-
Contract 3 – the water distribution system currently under construction and will be installed within designated and approved right of ways, meaning along the existing roadways. There is a map available that identifies the watermain locations.

When will construction begin and end?
-
All three contract are currently in various stages of construction.
-
Contract 1 – elevated storage reservoir (water tower) completion date December 2025 but will remain empty until potable water is available.
-
Contract 2 – water treatment plant completion date is December 31, 2026.
-
Contract 3 – water distribution system completion date is December 31, 2026, which is dependent on Contracts 1 & 2 being completed.

How much will the project cost, and who is funding it?
-
Contract 1 – elevated storage reservoir construction cost = $8,189,000.00
-
Contract 2 – water treatment plant construction cost = $54,257,450.00
-
Contract 3 – water distribution system construction cost = $21,408,983.78
-
Indigenous Services Canada is funding the projects.
When will the water distribution system construction be finished, and when will those connected begin using the water system?
-
The completion date for the water distribution system is December 31, 2026. It is important to note that the water service lines cannot be connected to the any home or building until the water treatment plant, the elevated storage reservoir and the water distribution systems are commissioned.
-
Once commissioning is completed, the general contractor will begin installing the water service lines to home. After the water service line is flushed and physical connected to the home’s existing plumbing system, the homeowner can use the water system.
